Lacquered wood picture frame, 'Mystique' (8x10)

Subin Tositarat decorates a repetitive vegetal motif around a rectangular frame. Expertly carved with mango wood and subtly lacquered, this frame will add a distinguished touch to cherished photos. The piece is lacquered with up to twenty coats, with drying periods in between each coat. The final layer is washed and polished. Then a gilding technique called lai rot nam, which means "watered pattern, " is applied. The motifs are etched freehand and filled with shimmering gold leaf.
